My fail proof gluten free cake...

Ingredients
  • 220grams of butter - I use Stork baking butter
  • 220 caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 200 grams of gluten free self raising flour
  • 2 tsp gluten free baking powder
  • 2 tsp xanthan gum - this helps keep it together and not crumble
  • Icing sugar for dusting
  • Double cream
  • Cocoa powder - I estimate this when blending by how dark I want the mixture, also this is optional if you want a chocolate cake or plain sponge cake
  • 100g of ground almonds - this is optional but I didn't have any this time and it is just as nice
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees celsius and grease 2 circular 20cm/8 inch cake tins

I use a food processor to make cakes as I feel it gives it a lighter taste, but it can be done by hand or using a hand whisk.
  • Firstly cream the butter and sugar.
  • Add the eggs one at a time blending after every egg.
  • Add the vanilla and mix.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, xanthan gum and cocoa powder and mix.
  • Ta da it's as simple as that, you now have your cake mixture ready to put into your tins.
  • Evenly disribute the mixture over the two tins and put in the oven for 30-35 mins (I always keep an eye on it).
  • Meanwhile whisk the double cream and a tsp of vanilla essence in a seperate bowl. If you like it sweeter just add some icing sugar.
Once the cakes are baked, remove from the oven and let them cool in the tins for at least 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn them onto a wire rack until completely cool.

When they are totally cool you can add the cream to the base cake, then add the top cake. To finish dust with icing sugar and you will have a beautiful light chocolate sponge cake, delicious!

If you want to make a plain victoria sponge just leave out the cocoa powder and add strawberry jam between the layers.

Let me know if you make this and I would love to see your pics on twitter @misslmakeup

Boots splurge #2...

Why do boots always have good offers, so good and bad at the same time.
~Boots oval cotton pads - buy one get one half price
~Haircare is currently on 3 for 2 so I took this chance to pick up the Lee Stafford dark dry shampoo, Lee Stafford leave in hair treatment and the John Frieda leave in conditioner.
I love thick lashes so I was drawn in by this wand as I feel this type of wand gives my lashes a fuller look, can't wait to start using this.
~Max Factor eyeshadow pencil in carmel rage - I used this to take the swatch on my arm (below), then I used it once below my lower lash line to create a smokey eye, I took an allergic reaction to it within seconds and it stung/burnt my eyes. I quickly removed the makeup and sat for 30 mins with cotton pads soaked in cold water over my eyes to relieve the pain, the rest of the night my eyes were watering, not pleasant at all, this has never happened to me before. I'm so disappointed as I loved the colour. I tweeted Max Factor and they've said to get in touch with them, I would love to send it to them to see what has went wrong.
~Max Factor colour precision eyeshadow in coffee  I'm sort of scared to use this now in case I get the same reaction as I did with the pencil.
~Maybelline forever strong nail varnish rose podure (repurchase)
~Maybelline color tattoo in metallic pomegranate and pink gold
~Finally I'm running out of the collection concealer so I picked one up in the lightest shade.

From left to right is the Max factor eye pencil in caramel rage, Max Factor eyeshadow in coffee, Maybelline pink gold and Maybelline metallic pomegranate. ps I'm wearing one of my favourite jumpers from New Look and my ASOS multi toned boyfriend watch.

What have you picked up in boots lately?

Online beauty haul...

I bought all these lovely items are from the online beauty store called Save on beauty.

Maybelline dream bouncy blush in 60 coffee cake - of course I had to poke it before I took the picture.lol

Laval cream blusher in 132 peach melba - again I dipped my finger in it before I took the picture.

From left to right is: coffee cake, peach melba, peach satin and hawaiian bronzer

Neutrogena sun screen - this was really cheap as it expired but I don't mind using it as suncream is extra moisturising.

I am so pleased with these items and I will definitely be buying from them again.

Have you bought anything from this site before?:)

Too many eyeliners?...

Does anyone else have a problem with an overflowing amount of eyeliners?...

These are my soap and glory eyeliners, from left to right theres: aquabat, blue my mind, grapevine, cocoa bean and superblack, they are very similar to the Urban Decay liners below... aren't they just beautiful!? They are so smooth and have an amazing colour pay off.

As you can tell by the size of them I have used these Urban Decay liners a lot:)

Urban Decay lucky, covet, electric, lust and zero

Rimmel denim blue - I probably wouldn't buy this again as it's hard to get the colour to show and who wants to scrape their eyes trying to get colour on them?!lol!. Rimmel taupe - this is very creamy, I like to run this below my lower lash line to give a light smokey effect. Rimmel nude - every blogger/youtuber seems to have this colour, I do really like the creamy consistency and it does give your eyes a brighter look.

From left to right - Neals yard eyeliner in slate, bourjois grey shadow, prestige shiraz, Pure sahara, Fearne Cotton envious green and night owl, Sephora jumbo liner in black, Estee Lauder double wear onyx. The Sephora and Estee Lauder eye liners are probably the darkest blacks I've every tried.

Boots Collection black, brown, blue and purple (it took ages to get the brown, blue and purple off my arm.lol). Wet n wild liquid liner dark brown, Urban Decay perversion, Rimmel scandaleyes black (I probably wouldn't repurchase as it has the slanted nip which I just can't figure out how to use it), Bourjois noir and Eyeko skinny liner in black.

Do you have any of these eyeliners?

Holland and Barretts gluten free snacks...

Holland and Barrett's sell some of my favourite gluten free goodies, so I had to make use of their buy one get one half price sale and stock up on a few things.

Mrs Crimbles apple rice cakes - if you are like me and love a coffee along with cheese and crackers at the weekends you will love these. You can get them in plain as well but the sweet apple flavour goes really nicely with cheese. These come wrapped in 4 stay fresh packs which means they are also handy for me to put into my handbag for a snack, as if have Coeliac you will know not everywhere caters for gluten free.

Mrs Crimbles cheese crackers - these are more like a traditional cracker and are perfect for topping with cheese and your favourite chutney.

Eat real quinoa sour cream crisps - I have a very bad addiction to crisps and popcorn (healthy homemade popcorn recipe here) so I'm trying to go for the most healthiest option available. These are delicious and very addictive!

Eat real chilli lentil chips - again these crisps are very 'moreish' and feel healthier than your normal crips.

Beyond Dark 70% dark chocolate drops -  this is the first time trying these and oh my word they are good! I've already demolished theses two bags, they taste so smooth and rich. I will definitely be buying these again, might even say they are more satisfying than milk chocolate.

What's your favourite snacks?

A glow for every day...

1. Benefit What's up - I got this sample size in my lovely Christmas Benefit cheeky sweet spot box o' blushes set, it is great to put into my handbag makeup bag.  I think it is quite similar to the Jemma Kidd dewy glow cream which is brilliant as it's not as easy to get.

2. The Body shop 01 golden bronze - this is such a beautiful item to look at never mind actually use. I've only used it a few times so far and it's lovely, I'm very pale so I have to use a light hand when using this as it does give a more bronzed highlight.

3. Makeup Academy undress your skin shimmer highlighter - for the price of this I think it is amazing, it really gives an amazing glimmer to your cheekbones. The only downside is the packaging, as you can see my lid broke off now I place it inside a plastic sandwich bag to protect it which isn't great for travel or very hygienic.

4. Sleek Face contour kit 884 light - I haven't used this in a while but if I go out I like to use a cream highlight then set it with this so it lasts that little bit longer. I'm not sure if I would repurchase again as to me it's not finely milled enough.

5. Jemma Kidd dewy glow all over radiance creme - why oh why was this line ever discontinued, I absolutely loved Jemma Kidd products.  As you can see I still have some of it left so I am using it sparingly. I have just found however that QVC sell it but it has been wait listed due to the high demand for it.

6. Benefit High Beam - I have totally fallen back in love with this, I only have this sample size so will be tempted to repurchase a full size one.

7. Benefit Eye bright - I love using this is my inner eye and brow bone and it gives a nice subtle glow instead of a shimmer.

Of course this is enough highlighters but once I've used some of these up I have my eyes/heart set on the famous Charlotte Tilbury Face Sculpt & Highlight palette or the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder
